Thanassis Vassiliou
Thanassis Vassiliou is a director and screenwriter based in Poitiers, France, where he teaches film theory and practice as an Associate Professor of Film Studies (University of Poitiers). His short films Traces (2017) and Our Last Week (2016) have been screened and awarded at numerous international film festivals, while LO is his first feature-length film. LO premiered at the 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival (2025), where it received the EKKOMED Newcomer's Award (Greek Programme). It went on to win the Golden Wreath of Megisti (Grand Prix) and the "Odysseus" Award for Best Documentary by a Greek Filmmaker of the Diaspora at the 10th Beyond Borders – Kastellorizo International Documentary Festival (2025), and received a Special Mention at the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival (Doc, 2026). In June 2026, the film was also honoured with the IRIS Award for Best Documentary by the Hellenic Film Academy.

How do you trace the past? After his mother’s death, the filmmaker returns to his empty childhood home. While dealing with grief, the past, and memories he explores his father’s involvement in the Greek dictatorship of the late 1960s.
