How does a self-driving car distinguish a tree from a pedestrian, or recognise the difference between a police officer from a pedestrian? Their Eyes brings attention to the invisible labour that makes AI technologies have the ability to see our world. Throughout the Global South, online micro-workers are meticulously identifying roads, vehicles, traffic signs, and people, producing datasets that teach self-driving vehicles how to navigate privileged cities and societies, from which these labourers are excluded from. While mapping and seeing the world for others, they rendered invisible and subjected to exploitative labour conditions.

Blending personal testimonies with screen recordings, the film reveals the human labour concealed under AI technologies. Each outline, label, and tag is almost an artistic interpretation of the world, which companies ultimately appropriates for effective techno-capitalist output. Their Eyes exposes the invisible labour, the unfair conditions, and the unequal global infrastructures that sustain AI technologies.
