Love-22-Love is a love letter to Jeroen Kooijmans’ wife and artist Elspeth Diederix, and a personal exploration of the filmmaker’s self and artmaking. The film takes the viewers on a 32-year-long journey across the different cities and continents where the artist lived for his residencies including Amsterdam, New York, and India among others.

Through a blend of home videos, video art, live projection and everyday life footage, the filmmaker creates a multi-layered moving image that invites the viewers to explore the brighter and darker sides of the self, life, and human relationships.

With his intimate film debut Kooijmans depicts the experience of growing old with a partner, of battling with mental illness and of discovering the self through love and fatherhood. The film also expresses the filmmaker’s experience of being an artist by depicting his personal struggles as well as the rediscovery of his creative urge.

The film explores the self across different spaces, whether in different continents or phases of adulthood, in an effort to contemplate existence and purpose.

The screening will be introduced and followed by a discussion with filmmaker Jeroen Kooijmans.
