A Phone Trip in Dublin interviews several employees of tech and Big Tech companies through tours of their phones, inviting them to reflect on their relationship with the devices they use every day. The participants consider how they use their phones, what it is like working for tech industry, and how their profession shape their relationships with technology, algorithms, and data collection. As different apps are opened, each phone reveals an amalgamation of its owner, revealing their personal habits, interests, and patterns of consumption.

Ariane Papillon provides both an empathetic and critical perspective on working for big tech, balancing between moral obligation and financial necessity. The film embraces the awkwardness of translating a vertical screen into a horizontal cinematic frame. The resulting cramped and frustrating viewing experience reflects the limitations imposed by these devices, as our increasing reliance on smartphones makes them difficult to live without, while simultaneously pointing to the narrowing possibilities of resisting these big tech companies.
