Miko Revereza’s deeply personal essay film Nowhere Near is an engagement with statelessness, migration, and intergenerational memory. Born in the Philippines and raised undocumented in the United States, Revereza chronicles his decision to leave the US and travel with his grandmother back to their ancestral land. The journey becomes both an act of mourning and resistance, as he confronts the weight of colonial histories and his own fractured identity.
Shot over the course of several years, the essay film shifts between diary-like narrations, archival fragments, and striking visual compositions. Water flows across the screen, echoing the fluid and unsettled nature of belonging, while Revereza’s own voice carries the film forward with intimacy but also analytical distance. Nowhere Near resists closure, embracing displacement as both a condition and form of artistic expression.
