Haunted, the Hollow (2025) is a collaboration between Veronica Munteanu, Karin Nakajima, and Sara Ouljour. These makers share an interest in depicting a nuanced and multi-faceted exploration of how industrial collapse impacts a specific community.

Doing so, through a blend of evocative imagery, personal testimonies, and archival footage, the film explores the physical and psychological landscapes that are affected by closures. It uncovers how the hollowed-out spaces and the collective memory of a community deal with their past while trying to imagine a future. The essayistic features of the film show in its engagement with complex societal issues beyond a simple narrative. It questions rather than explains the matter at hand and thereby reflects on the human condition. We are invited to critically consider the long-term consequences of economic shifts.

Haunted, the Hollow is part of the New Perspectives block, which spotlights emerging filmmakers who are expanding the possibilities of the essay film form.
